MoolahMate: Turning a Web-Based Money Tracker into a Mobile App People Actually Use

Overview

MoolahMate set out to put its money tracker in every user's pocket

MoolahMate is a user-friendly, web-based money tracker and budget planner with a clear promise: save more, spend less, and reduce your financial stress.

The next step was obvious — meet users where they manage their lives: on their phones. MoolahMate engaged 247 Labs to convert the web experience into a mobile app that delivers its core features seamlessly, empowering users to take control of their financial lives on the go. The app is live today on both the App Store and Google Play.

The Challenge

Bringing a full financial toolkit to the small screen without losing what made it work

Translating a full web-based financial tool to mobile is not a copy-paste job. The core features that made MoolahMate valuable on desktop had to survive the move to a small screen — without overwhelming users or burying the functions they rely on daily.

The challenge was to deliver MoolahMate’s money tracking and budget planning seamlessly on mobile, optimizing limited screen space while keeping the experience intuitive enough that taking control of your finances feels easier, not harder.

The Solution

A research-led, user-centric design built and validated before a line of production code

We prioritized a user-centric design from the start. Through user research with the existing MoolahMate audience, we identified their top priorities — then designed the app around them, integrating those features into an intuitive, easy-to-navigate mobile experience that makes every pixel of limited screen space count.

Usability testing on the completed designs and prototypes gave us direct feedback from real users, which we used to refine the experience before a single production screen shipped. A seamless handoff with detailed interaction notes then carried that validated design cleanly into build and out to both app stores.

Areas of Impact

A research-led process paid off at every stage of the project

Grounding the mobile move in real user input shaped the outcome from first sketch to store launch:

  • User research. Direct research with the existing MoolahMate audience surfaced the features users valued most.
  • Screen-space optimization. An intuitive, easy-to-navigate design that fits a full financial toolkit onto a phone.
  • Validated UX. Usability testing on designs and prototypes refined the experience before build.
  • Smooth build. A seamless handoff with detailed interaction notes ensured a smooth development process and a successful launch.
